DOMINIK J. MODLINSKI
AFCA. CSPWC.
Dominik J. Modlinski was born in Warsaw, Poland, on November 20, 1970. From an early age, he pursued printmaking and later attended the School for Artistic Crafts and Design in Warsaw. In 1987, Dominik immigrated to Canada, studying Fine Arts at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, where he graduated with honors in 1993. During his studies, he was drawn to the wilderness of Northern Ontario and, following graduation, moved to the Algoma region to paint at the Algoma School of Landscape Arts. Since then, Dominik has passionately explored and painted the wilderness in various global locations, embedding the journey motif, his personal growth, and creative process into his work.
In the early 1990s, his travels led him to the Yukon wilderness and the far North, where he discovered his inner creative calling in depicting Canada's dramatic landscapes. For over two decades, Dominik has returned to the Yukon, captivated by its harsh, ever-changing environment that continues to inspire him. His painting journeys often involve weeks of travel through rugged lands, where he captures the majesty of nature in plein air style across the four seasons. His quest is to reveal the inherent balance and truthfulness found in nature while celebrating unique ecosystems.
Dominik's global travels have extended to some of the world’s last remaining wilderness areas, including Antarctica, the High Arctic, Greenland, Patagonia, Namibia, South Africa, Bolivia, Peru, and Ecuador. As wilderness areas face increasing threats, Modlinski's work reflects a deep commitment to preserving the planet’s beauty, with a goal to inspire others through his paintings, photographs, stories, and videos.
When not traveling, Dominik works from his home studio on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. He is also the creator of 'CHANGING LANDSCAPES,' a television series where he travels the world with his best friend, in search of adventure and painting locations, which is broadcast on the SHAW channel. Outside of his art, Dominik follows his passion for martial arts, having trained for 37 years and holding a 6th-degree black belt in Karate.
Dominik Modlinski’s work is featured in many prestigious private and corporate collections worldwide. He exhibits regularly and is represented by: Canada House Gallery in Banff, AB, Hambelton Galleries in Kelowna, BC, Adele Campbell Fine Art Gallery in Whistler, BC, Alpine Echo in Revelstoke, BC, Gallery 133 in Toronto, ON, and Medicine Man Gallery in Phoenix, AZ.
