This original painting was inspired by many years spent exploring and painting in the Banff area. I have hiked around Moraine Lake many times, approaching it from different directions and painting plein air along the surrounding trails.
No matter how many times I return, the landscape continues to impress me. The brilliant colour of the lake, dramatic mountain peaks, and constantly changing light make it an endless source of inspiration.
Moraine Lake remains one of the most iconic landscapes of the Canadian Rockies, and with this painting I wanted to capture both its grandeur and the personal connection that comes from experiencing this remarkable place on foot and with a paintbrush in hand.
