Original painting was inspired by a hike into the remote alpine landscape around Triple Peak on central Vancouver Island. It was a challenging but incredibly rewarding journey, taking me alongside cascading waterfalls and opening up to spectacular views of mist-filled valleys far below.
Early autumn brought a wonderful richness of colour to the high country. The changing vegetation created vibrant reds, golds, oranges, and greens, contrasting with the cool tones of the rocks, water, and distant mountains.
I was especially fascinated by the ancient roots twisting around and clinging to the exposed rocks, shaped by years of harsh mountain weather. With this painting, I wanted to capture not only the dramatic scale of the landscape, but also those smaller details that tell the story of survival and resilience in the alpine environment.
