Original painting 48” x 48“ oil on canvas - SOLD

Original painting was inspired by various plein air sketches from my painting journeys across Canada’s Far North, focusing on the incredible tapestry of colour, texture, and changing light that comes with the arrival of autumn.

The change of season arrives early in the North. Almost overnight, the tundra begins to glow with brilliant reds, oranges, yellows, and ochres—a spectacular but brief display that signals the approach of a long winter.

There is also a noticeable change in the rhythm of life. Animals prepare for winter and gather food, while people cut and stack firewood beside log cabins across the territory. I love this time of year because the landscape feels incredibly alive, yet there is always a sense that winter is just around the corner.
