Original painting was inspired by a painting journey into the mountains of central British Columbia, where the landscape still carries the visible marks of recent wildfires.
I was struck by the contrast within the landscape. In the distance, the mountains rise clear and untouched, while the foreground forest tells a very different story—charred trunks, exposed ground, and the remains of trees transformed by fire.
But what interested me most was not the destruction itself, but the quiet evidence of regeneration. New vegetation was already emerging from the darkened forest floor, bringing fresh colour and life back into the landscape. Light filtering through the open forest seemed to emphasize that sense of renewal.
For me, this painting is about the cycle of destruction and rebirth that is so much a part of the natural world. Even after a powerful disturbance like wildfire, the wilderness begins the slow process of rebuilding itself—a reminder of nature’s remarkable resilience and enduring strength.
