Original painting was inspired by a painting journey along the Alaska Highway and a visit to Smith River Falls in late September. By this time of year, the first real signs of winter are beginning to appear, and the colder weather starts to transform the northern landscape.
I have always loved painting these moments of transition between seasons. The changing colours, colder light, and first hints of snow bring a completely different mood to the landscape.
For me, this time of year is also naturally reflective. As another season of travelling, hiking, and painting comes to an end, I find myself looking back on the adventures and experiences of summer and autumn, while already dreaming about the places I might explore and paint in the year ahead.
