Original painting was inspired by a plein air painting journey along the remote North Canol Road in Canada’s Far North.
One of the things that fascinated me in this area was the unusual colour of the creeks and rivers. Water flowing from the surrounding mineral-rich mountains carries elements such as iron, gradually leaving colourful deposits along the rocks and edges of the waterways. These mineral tones create beautiful and unexpected contrasts with the surrounding landscape.
With this painting, I wanted to capture the fascinating combination of water, mineral-rich rock, and autumn tundra—all the small patterns, textures, and colours that make this remote northern landscape so visually exciting to paint.
