Original painting 36” x 36” oil on canvas - SOLD

This original painting was inspired by a painting journey into MacMillan Pass in the remote Mackenzie Mountains of Yukon Territory, near the border with the Northwest Territories.

What fascinates me about this region is the transition from the boreal forest into the vast openness of the northern tundra. Trees gradually disappear, giving way to immense plains, low vegetation, and small Arctic willows growing along the creeks that wind through the landscape.

There is a wonderful sense of space, solitude, and freedom here. With so few trees to interrupt the view, the eye can travel across the tundra toward the distant Mackenzie Mountains and seemingly endless northern sky.
