Vancouver Island holds a very special place in my heart, having been my home for many years. I never tire of exploring its wild interior, where rugged mountains, ancient forests, alpine lakes, and the Pacific Ocean come together within an incredibly diverse landscape.
This original studio painting was inspired by journeys into the remote mountains of central Vancouver Island, capturing an early morning moment as the first light begins to reveal the peaks rising from the Clayoquot Plateau. I especially love this time of day, when mist still lingers in the valleys and the mountains slowly emerge from the shadows.
Much of this terrain is remote, rugged, and challenging to reach, but that is also part of what draws me there. After the effort of climbing into the high country, the reward is an extraordinary sense of space, solitude, and connection to the wilderness.
