Original painting was inspired by a plein air painting and photography journey through the Kootenay region of British Columbia.
I have always loved capturing the early morning light in the mountains, especially those first few moments after emerging from my tent to see what the new day has to offer. Sometimes you are greeted by an incredible display of light as the rising sun begins to catch the mountain peaks, while the valleys below remain in cool shadow.
These moments are often brief, with the light changing almost by the minute. With this painting, I wanted to capture that first light of morning dancing across the mountains and the wonderful sense of anticipation that comes with waking up surrounded by wilderness and another day of painting and exploration ahead.
