Original painting was inspired by numerous painting journeys across the vast northern tundra, a landscape whose openness, solitude, and constantly changing atmosphere have fascinated me for many years.
I have always been drawn to dramatic effects of light in the landscape. A sudden break in the clouds or a shaft of sunlight sweeping across the land can transform an otherwise quiet scene into something extraordinary. In the North, where the horizon seems endless and weather can change within moments, these fleeting displays of light can be especially powerful.
