Original painting was inspired by an autumn painting journey through the Yukon, where I came across a forest above the Yukon River that had been burned by wildfire. Although the fire had dramatically changed the landscape, new life was already beginning to return through the undergrowth.
During autumn, this recovering landscape becomes especially beautiful. Young vegetation, grasses, shrubs, and fireweed create a mosaic of reds, oranges, yellows, greens, and earthy tones, weaving their way between the dark remains of the burned forest.
This has become one of my favourite subjects to paint because it represents something much larger than the landscape itself—the natural cycle of destruction, renewal, and rebirth. Even after the devastation of wildfire, life slowly returns.
With this painting, I wanted to capture that sense of resilience and hope for renewal, reminding us that nature is constantly changing, rebuilding, and beginning again.
