Original painting was inspired by a painting expedition into the Mackenzie Mountains near MacMillan Pass in Yukon Territory. I have returned to this remote part of the North many times over the years, especially during autumn when the tundra is at its most colourful.

For this piece, I was particularly interested in the complex tapestry of low tundra vegetation in the foreground. Small shrubs, grasses, rocks, and ground cover create an intricate pattern of reds, oranges, golds, greens, and earthy tones. I love how these layers of colour and texture lead the eye through the landscape toward the distant trees and mountains.
