Original painting was inspired by a painting expedition into the Mackenzie Mountains near MacMillan Pass in Yukon Territory. I have returned to this remote region many times over the years, especially during the autumn when the northern landscape is at its most colourful.
The vast mountain valleys, open tundra, changing weather, and incredible autumn colours make this one of my favourite places to paint. Every turn in the road or hike into the mountains seems to reveal another view and another possibility for a painting.
I keep returning to MacMillan Pass because it never feels the same twice. The changing light, weather, and seasons continually transform the landscape, providing me with countless compositions and an endless source of inspiration.
