Original painting based on hike along Wiwaxy Gap and the Huber Ledges high above the shores of Lake O’Hara, with the bold profile of Mount Yukness rising prominently in the foreground. Few places in the Canadian Rockies possess the quiet majesty and luminous colour of Lake O’Hara in autumn. During those brief weeks, the alpine larches turn gold, the air becomes crisp and clear, and the entire landscape seems to glow with an inner light.
Painting in this environment was deeply inspiring. Long hours on the trail, quick plein air studies, and careful observation of shifting light and atmosphere all became part of the creative process. Back in the studio, I gathered those memories, sketches, and emotional impressions, weaving them together into this large, dynamic composition.
